SAND BED FILTERS

These systems are the traditional systems of the French authorities, SPANC, SATESE, CIDERAL etc.  Properties require the minimum land of 20m² to have these systems installed. The sand bed filter systems work in accordance with XP DTU 64-1 French systems and standards.

A soil study  " Etude de sol" must be performed by a Bureau de Etude to determine which of these systems are best for your land around your property.

The system consists of a presettlement tank ( fosse toutes eaux) where the solid waste settles, the first filtration takes place to remove any unwanted debris.

The fluid effluent then passes into the filtration system which consists of pipes which disperses the fliud by gravity through gravel, and sand (specially prepared and standardised for this purpose) which filters the fluild, here the biological action takes place aerobically.  Some filter systems drain straight into the ground below.  Some systems are encapsulated by an impermial membrane and may be drained further into a ditch.
